PROTECTED crayfish were allegedly poached from a North East river. Three suspects have been charged with fishing offences on the Wansbeck.

Following a joint investigation by the Environment Agency and police, three men have been charged. The suspects, all from Newbiggin, Northumberland, will be in court next week.

An Agency spokesman, said: "It is illegal to fish for any sort of crayfish in the North East. There is a licence available but they don't issue that in the North East."
