Sweden: Concern about crayfish plague in north Sweden
The Swedish Board of Fisheries (Fiskeriverket) has warned that attempts by
private people to plant signal crayfish in watercourses and lakes in north
Sweden is threatening to wipe out European crayfish. Signal crayfish can be
bearers of crayfish plague without suffering from the disease, and the Board is
concerned that European crayfish stocks in the north could be hard hit by the
plague if signal crayfish are introduced in these waters.
